Semaglutide Peptide Therapy FAQs

How much protein should I be eating to see optimal results?2023-10-16T21:00:45+00:00

Clients should consume, on average, 1 gram per pound of body weight. 1.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight is recommended to preserve lean muscle while in a caloric deficit.

Is nausea common? What is the best way to overcome it?2023-10-16T21:02:04+00:00
  • Yes, nausea can be a common side effect of semaglutide. This stems from the increase of glucagon produced by the body and the slow down of food moving through the digestive system. Nausea can also be worsened by long periods without food or fasting if your body is not accustomed. Nausea is typically intermittent and usually in the morning but the length and severity of the nausea is person dependent. Nausea typically reduces with tolerance after the first few weeks or the longer you continue. Nausea can be more noticeable during weeks where dosage increases.
  • More consistent meals and smaller, fewer fasting times. Typically, nausea in the morning occurs from extended time without food. Having consistent sources of protein and carbs in the morning can reduce nausea.
  • Customers should also maintain a healthy diet low in sugar and consistent with lean meats, veggies, unsaturated fats like avocados, and complex carbs like rice. Too much heavy, sugar-packed, or fried food can delay weight loss and lead to feeling nauseous and unwell.
Can a client dose down if their symptoms are extreme?2023-10-16T20:39:13+00:00
  • Of course, symptoms do, however, correct as tolerance is built. Increased symptoms can occur when increasing dosage but typically resolve within the next few days following the injection.
  •  If a client is still losing weight at their current dose or the dose they decided to remain at, they can prolong increasing. Clients not losing weight at current dose should consider increasing per the recommended regime or implementing increased exercise and tighter dietary restrictions to compensate for slowed results at their chosen dose.
What are common symptoms clients may see and how to mitigate them?2023-10-16T21:03:07+00:00
  • Nausea is the most typical symptom and can be mitigated with more consistent smaller meals and maintaining a diet consistent in healthy foods.
  • Simple tricks of smelling an alcohol prep pad, drinking warm water, or consuming things like ginger can help with the nausea as well.
  • The third most common side effect is fatigue. This can be combated with IV therapy and increased B-vitamin and Amino acid intake. Fatigue and overarching tiredness is common with a decrease in calories and increased insulin secretion.
Can I inject somewhere else besides my belly?2023-10-16T21:03:30+00:00

Yes. Injection in the leg/thigh works just as well as any other location and does help with decreasing the nausea.

How much water should I drink?2023-10-16T21:04:17+00:00

Sometimes that “full” feeling can carry over to thirst.  So it is important to stay aware of your water intake. Most individuals should be aiming for 0.5-1 oz. per pound of body weight. This is an ideal range but may be less with the feeling of fullness from semaglutide.

I’ve had heartburn since I started Semaglutide. Is that normal?2023-10-16T21:04:48+00:00

Yes. This can be a common side effect. We recommend taking omeprazole. If the heartburn persists please reach out to us.

Is having inconsistent bowel movements a normal thing?2023-10-16T21:05:06+00:00

Digestive enzymes and pre/probiotics are highly recommended for more consistent bowel movements. If constipation occurs, supplementing with magnesium or Milk of Magnesia is recommended.

How much should I eat?2023-10-16T21:05:32+00:00

For best results you’ll want to ensure you are eating healthy food, but also make sure you are eating enough food.  You often won’t feel hungry, but it is important to ensure you are still getting enough calories throughout the day to keep your metabolism up.

We recommend following the recommendations and calculations of the Prime IV diet and exercise program. This will tell you how much you should be eating to spare muscle and to lose weight with or without exercise.

I’ve hit a plateau in my weight loss. What should I do?2023-10-16T21:06:21+00:00

When the scale has stopped moving, look for non-scale victories to keep you motivated. Using things like an In Body scanner can show you potential increases in muscle or water where the scale has shown a plateau in your weight loss. This can also help you to see more progress while the scale may not change but your body’s morphology or waist size does.

This is also a great time to assess your dietary intake and see if changes need to be made to stricter types of food or the addition of mild to moderate exercise.

Small increases in your daily carb intake can alleviate plateaus that come from too restrictive of carbs resulting in a slow down in metabolism as well.

I noticed “sulfur” burps and gas about once a week. Is that normal?2023-10-16T21:06:44+00:00

Yes. This can be a common side effect of Semaglutide. We recommend Gas X and Pepto to help with symptoms.
